According to some estimates, there are roughly 4,200 religions in the world. God Seeker Guy is not a member of any one of them. While he may seem to have a little problem with Christianity, make no mistake, all organized religions are anathema to him, including disguised creeds like Atheism.
At the moment, he’s seeking answers, not a place to belong, not a place to feel safe or accepted. The three so called principal religions, Christianity, Judaism and Islam are all interesting to be sure, but hardly worth the sacrifice of personal and intellectual freedom. Cheondoism, Mazdakism, Zoroastrianism may be better choices, who knows?
The point here, is how do we pick a faith? How do we choose? The answer, of course, is that most of us don’t select anything, it’s done for us at birth. If born a Jew or Muslim, you become a member of that faith by default; therefore, our religion is simply a result of chance or geography. If that is the case, how can any one religion be the ‘right’ faith?
It‘s just as well the choice is made for us, because it would take several lifetimes to search through 4,200 religions, and since God Seeker Guy assumes he only has one lifetime, he has better things to search for, like a really good pizza place.
